The professional grooming course at Pleasant Park Grooming Academy Ltd. is a fully hands on program designed to prepare you to enter the competitive world of dog grooming. The course will not only teach you the basics of pet grooming – the fundamentals, it will teach you breed specific styles (show styles) and how to interpret these into more pet friendly, easy to maintain styles. It is very important as a professional dog groomer to know all of the official breed styles and how to execute them properly, but it is just as important to be able to represent these styles in a more pet friendly, easy to maintain fashion. Your ability to do this is what will keep your customers coming back again and again. The course will teach you how to properly and safely use clippers and scissors, and will teach you about basic health and safety issues associated with grooming. We will also teach you basic first aid techniques, and practice these through role playing of different first aid scenarios.

You will have first hand customer service experience with our salon’s customers, and experience in techniques for dealing with difficult dogs. You will be trained in how to safely de -mat dogs, and how to safely shave severely matted dogs. One entire week of the program is dedicated to grooming poodles, and how to interpret the many different poodle cuts into something your customer will appreciate, and be able to easily maintain. The overall summary of the course is simple: experience. The entire course at Pleasant Park Grooming Academy is hands on – the very best way to learn!
