Frequently Asked Questions

 

  • What kinds of pets do you teach us to groom?     Dogs only

 

  • What vaccinations are required to take the course?     You must have documented proof of current tetanus shots.

 

  • What physical requirements are there for the course?     You must be in good general health, able to lift an 80 pound/40 kg. dog, not have RSI, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Rotator Cuff Injury, neck or back injuries or related conditions.

 

  • What kinds of personality traits are found in successful dog groomers?     You must enjoy dogs, be able to work and stay calm under stressful conditions, have great patience, be flexible in facing unexpected challenges and have good customer service attitudes and skills.

 

  • Where are you located?     We are in a beautiful rural setting just off Highway 401 about 15-20 minutes from Windsor, Ontario.

  • Do I need transportation?     You will need to have daily transportation for the classes as there is no public transportation to our location.

 

  • What about lunches?     Our lunch periods are short to maximize your learning time.  You will need to bring your lunch and refreshments with you.

 

  • Why is the class size so small?     We have limited the class size to a maximum of five students to ensure that everyone has excellent supervision and a good instructor/student ratio.

 

  • Will I actually groom dogs in the course?     Our course is designed to give you experience as a groomer.  We offer our grooming customers at Pleasant Park Kennels the option to have their dog groomed by a student groomer under the supervision of our instructor.

 

  • What are the facilities like?     We are based next to our established kennel and grooming facilities.  Our training area is a brand new dedicated space for the grooming school.

 

  • What if I decide that grooming is not for me - can I get a refund?     Pleasant Park Park Grooming adheres to the rules for collecting fees and calculating refunds.  These are decided by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, Private Institutions Branch.

 

  • Do I have to buy my own grooming equipment? We supply you with a custom selected kit that will give you all the tools you will need to groom dogs.  The kit is included in the cost of your course and it will be the equipment you will actually use during your training.

 

  • What is the educational requirements to take the course?     You must be a high school graduate or pass a superintendent approved test.

 

  • Are there exams or test for the course?     There are several small tests throughout the course to evaluate your progress.  The final exam is a supervised practical exam and a written exam.

 

  • What do I receive at the end of the course? On successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate.

 

  • Is there a guarantee that I will get a job?     No one can guarantee that you will find a particular job upon graduation but you will have acquired the necessary experience and training to be a successful groomer.

 

  • Is there a guarantee that I will have a successful grooming business? No one can guarantee that any business will be successful.  The course will give you the necessary ingredients to make a business succeed but there are many outside and personal decisions that will effect the outcome of your business venture.
